A person with dementia will experience random and increasingly frequent memory blanks relating to recent events. Feelings, however, remain intact, as do memories of past events and both can be used in a special way to substitute for more recent information that has been lost.

Music has been proven to soothe, stimulate, and even unlock long-forgotten memories in people living with neurological conditions. We have all experienced that feeling of being transported back to a place or time from our past through a piece of music or a song, but for people with neurological conditions that experience can be particularly magical.
Research has also shown that memories of popular songs can activate very specific areas of the brain, which seem to be particularly resistant to the damaging effects of dementia and other neurological conditions. This means that people who struggle to recognise family members, or even remember their own name, can often recall all the words to their favourite songs.
We welcome you to come and make music with us and bring joy and happiness back into your life! Come and us, sing songs, play instruments and enjoy a cup of tea.
